Green Renovation: Coventry Family Home
Completed Summer 2010
Located in rural Coventry, Rhode Island on sprawling grassy
acres of land, this historic home has been in the same family for many
generations. While other renovations have been done in the past, Native
Structures innovative building ideas and techniques were applied in renovating
the home with a sustainable edge, while still maintaining its traditional and
historic details. While extensive updates have been made on both the interior
and exterior of this home, many of the homes’ original doorframes, bookshelves,
and fireplaces remain intact and were preserved throughout the renovation
process. Wood from demolition inside the home was recycled and the owners plan
to use it to heat their home through the winter. The new wood in this home is
FSC certified and the spray foam insulation system favored by Native Structures
was also applied in this project. The spray foam was used in effort to maximize
the heat retention of the home and to reduce heat loss in the winter. The
environmentally responsible renovations of this property were completed in
summer 2010. Photographs of the building process and this completed home are
can be found on the Native Structures blog.
