Green Renovation: Narragansett Home
Construction Began Spring 2010
This
Narragansett, Rhode Island home is currently being renovated with a green focus
in mind. The owners wanted an updated layout and style, but hoped to achieve
that with sustainability in their renovations. Native Structures helped devise
a plan to achieve their environmental aspirations with this home and the
renovations are now well under way. One example of green building in this home
is its use of FSC certified wood. The interior studs and much of the structures
within the home will be built using this environmentally sound wood. Spray foam
insulation was also used on this site and has elements of soy and vegetable
bases in it, making it more decomposable that traditional insulation. As a
coastal home that experiences heavy winds and sea spray on occasion, spray foam
is an extremely sound insulation choice as it hardens in crevices and seals the
home from any excess heat loss. The progress on the renovation of this home
will continue over the summer. Please refer to the blog for updates on this
green renovation!
